Hi, I’m JingXin! I earned my Ph.D. in chemistry in 2018 and did a brief postdoc before entering into chemical industry. I realized how much I loved academic science and am currently in a second postdoc. As such, I bring experience from different scientific fields.
I have always loved writing, words, and the storytelling process. A story is only as engaging as it can be effectively communicated (e.g., a well-structured talk). I’m excited to be a part of the BSC team where I get to help shape narratives to share exciting science and discoveries. Some of my favorite editing projects involve restructuring texts to turn a good story into a GREAT story and elevating the aesthetics of figures (because a picture speaks 1,000 words).
When I’m not working on science, I love photography, running in the rain, cooking (especially spaghetti!), and making noise on my acoustic guitar.
Erin
Hi, I’m Erin! I earned my Ph.D. in 2019 in biomedicine, with a focus on neuroscience research. I am currently a postdoctoral associate investigating neurodegenerative disease mechanisms, and I have a wide range of biological, behavioral, and biochemical trainings.
I lived outside my home country for the better part of a decade while pursuing my MSc and Ph.D., giving me the opportunity to learn and live in different cultures. This perspective has allowed me to understand the importance of good scientific communication and being able to properly articulate scientific research and findings. As such, I am very happy to be a part of BSC and in helping scientists hone their scientific “story-telling”. There’s nothing more exciting then reading about the newest scientific breakthrough and being a part of shaping that content for the rest of the world to read.
When I’m not editing or in the lab, I’m usually reading, pouring over a difficult Sudoku, or checking out a local brewery.

Hey, I’m Franziska – Franzi! I manage the social media for ButlerSciComm, making sure that you have access to all of our material when you need it!
I have a bachelor’s degree in social work and have been working full time in this field now for the last three years. After a year of self-discovery traveling through southeast Asia, I came “home“ with an empty wallet and fulfilling memories. I tried the typical German lifestyle and went back to social work, but it didn’t take me long to recognize that that’s not how I picture my life. And since I’m also the generation who finds joy and fulfillment in social media, photography and videography, I decided to instead pursue my passions and jump onto the Social Media Marketing train!
When I’m not working, I’m seeking the tropical sun and warm oceans. I love to travel and experience the wonders of earth – preferably under water with a warm suit and a bottle full of oxygen!

Hi! I’m Kaycie! I earned my Ph.D. in chemistry at Caltech in 2014, and did my postdoc in chemical biology at EPFL. After so many years in academia, I realized how little scientists were taught about how to write effective manuscripts – and how much we struggled because of it. I founded ButlerSciComm to fix this issue and to help scientists get their manuscripts published.
As a scientist, I wanted to spend my time doing great science and not stressing about writing and being heard. Unfortunately, that was something I struggled enormously with during my time in lab. To fix this, and to combine my passion for science communication with human psychology, I studied the people who could communicate to learn what they did and how they did it. When I’m not working on a paper, teaching a workshop, or developing a new course, you can find me under water (scuba), at a yoga or dance studio, or with my nose in a book. The ocean is definitely my happy place, so good thing I can work remotely!
